Unto the Hills: A Daily Devotional By Billy Graham
Unto the Hills: A Daily Devotional
By Billy Graham
No matter your place in life, this classic collection of devotional readings is designed to bring you daily to that special place of renewal— to help you pause and gaze "unto the hills" for help and inspiration.
Each of the 365 daily readings in this inspiring collection offers a carefully chosen passage of scripture, a brief, thoughtful message from Dr. Graham, and a heartfelt prayer composed especially for this book. Distilled from a lifetime of study and ministry, these devotionals supply daily food for thought about living fruitfully and joyfully in an often fretful world.
Simple, direct, encouraging yet challenging, this book offers itself as a heartening companion for your daily walk in the valley. This collection is a gentle but constant reminder that we can find help for all our needs as long as we remember to look up . . . unto the hills but especially unto the Lord.
About the Author:
"My one purpose in life is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ." --Billy Graham
Evangelist Billy Graham took Christ literally when He said in Mark 16:15, “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”
Mr. Graham has preached the Gospel to more people in live audiences than anyone else in history—nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories—through various meetings, including Mission World and Global Mission. Hundreds of millions more have been reached through television, video, film, and webcasts.
My thoughts:
This is a great devotional. Some of the pages have enough room on them to make notes or write out your prayers. It's a paperback so you can flip and hold the pages back. It's a pretty good size, but it is for a year. I enjoyed the daily format and the words of inspiration. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a general devotional.
You can purchase this book at Amazon or anywhere else that sells Christian books.

Outlive Your Life You Were Made to Make a Difference by Max Lucado
Outlive Your Life You Were Made to Make a Difference
By Max Lucado
These are difficult days in our world's history. 1.75 billion people are desperately poor, natural disasters are gouging entire nations, and economic uncertainty still reigns across the globe. But you and I have been given an opportunity to make a big difference. What if we did? What if we rocked the world with hope? Infiltrated all corners with God's love and life? We are created by a great God to do great works. He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven, but here on earth. Let's live our lives in such a way that the world will be glad we did.Authors:
My thoughts:
I always enjoy reading books written by Max Lucado. He has an easy to read and understand writing style. In this book, he writes about how we were each made to make a difference locally and globally. It helped open my eyes to different options I had not considered. and the steps we can take. The profits are donated to WorldVision.
You can purchase this book (and the one for teens) at Amazon or from Max Lucado's site.

You Were Made to Make a Difference ~ Max Lucado and Jenna Lucado Bishop
You Were Made to Make a Difference
By Max Lucado and Jenna Lucado Bishop
Want to change the world? Did you know You Were Made to Make a Difference? This adaptation of Outlive Your Life for teens offers practical tips youth can take out into their community to make a difference, plus real-life stories about those who have done just that. Teens learn that God can use them to make a difference right now. He wants to use them today, without waiting for them to be older, stronger, richer, or even more “together.” God can use their minds, their spirits, and their hands and feet to make permanent change for His kingdom.
Also included are valuable resources, interesting facts about the needy in the world and how little it takes to make a big difference, and other interactive elements such as journaling opportunities for writing personal ideas and service goals.
Teens will learn that their role in life is bigger than themselves, and that they’re not too young to make a difference for God.
Authors:
If Jenna Lucado is sure of anything, she is sure of this, “I have a deep calling on my life to give hope to teenage girls.” What started out as a heart to encourage teen girls has now blossomed into a ministry. Daughter of best-selling Christian author Max Lucado, Jenna has realized that she has inherited a passion for writing and speaking just like her dad. She is currently a part of the Revolve Tour, an event for teen girls that includes a line-up of Christian artists like Natalie Grant, as well as speaker and author, Chad Eastham and many more. In September 2009 the release of her debut book, Redefining Beautiful, will hit bookstore shelves. Jenna has also narrated part of Thomas Nelson’s Word of Promise: Next Generation. Through all the piling projects, Jenna is driven by the thought of one more girl hearing about the love of Jesus.
MY THOUGHTS:
I enjoyed this book. I thought it was a well written resource for teens. It was set out so they can work through the various topics at their own speed and either on their own or with a group. There was plenty of space to write down thoughts or questions. If you're looking for a book for a teen to help him/her grow in relationship with Christ and know his/her place in Him, then you've found the right book!

Storm Warning by Billy Graham
This book was originally published in 1992. Given the events in the past two decades, it was updated with Storm Warning signs from recent events. It's an examination of the imminence of Christ's return in light of today's headlines and the events recorded in Scripture.
The morning newspapers are jammed with alarming headlines and stories asking questions no one can answer. In Storm Warning, Billy Graham examines the problems facing America today compared with what is to come as revealed in the Bible. He answers the tough questions as only he can with astute biblical insight, and points to the hope and renewal found in Christ-for our families, our nation, and our world.
Includes an in-depth analysis of the four horsemen of Revelation chapter six as well as insight on:
- Signs of the times
- The Apocalypse
- Standing before God
His son FRANKLIN GRAHAM has written an introduction to the updated edition of the book.
My thoughts
I requested this book because I absolutely adore Anne Graham Lotz, Billy Graham's daughter. Also, my grandparents had a lot of respect for Mr. Graham, so with those recommendations, I wanted to know more about him. I was not disappointed. I am glad the book was updated with events that have happened recently because it makes more sense. It's something I can "get". I would recommend this book if you want to learn how to recognize the warnings given to us in Scripture or you just want to read something by Billy Graham.
To comply with new regulations introduced by the Federal Trade Commission, I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson.

Kaleidoscope by Patsy Clairmont
Understanding the Christian life and the Bible can be a daunting task. But maybe God didn't mean it to be so hard. In Kaleidoscope of Proverbs, Patsy Clairmont pieces together some powerful messages from God and reveals new facets of beauty, inspiration, and instruction. Written for busy women, Patsy offers brief, powerful chapters that address the key aspects of their lives, hearts, and relationships.
In the Proverbs, God gives us small gems of hope and truth, and in Kaleidoscope of Proverbs, Patsy Clairmont unveils them for readers with her trademark humor and insightful teaching.
About the author: Patsy Clairmont: Petite, profound, and playful. These words help to describe her size, her message, and her humor. She has a command of God's word and with her quick wit and fast Patsy Clairmont paced humor she will keep everyone laughing. This light touch combined with scriptural knowledge makes Patsy an unusual package. You find yourself laughing God's truths right into your heart.
Patsy comes from an uncommon background. Her years of suffering as a prisoner in her own home, a victim of agoraphobia, have given her a deep appreciation of God's healing power. God has pulled together the emotionally fragmented pieces of her life. From her emotionally troubled background God has combined her humor and her knowledge of His word to remind you that imperfect, "cracked" Christians are God's specialty.
My review:
I enjoyed this book. Each chapter is short enough to use as a daily devotion, as each chapter is based on a verse from Proverbs. They are also short enough that if you just have a few minutes, you can pick it up and just read a few pages. Ms. Clairmont has a very easy to read writing style and she's witty! Each chapter ends with reflection (Bits and Pieces) and various Bible verses to ponder on. I would recommend adding this book to your collection and giving one to a friend.

The Voice of Psalms
Readers will be inspired to praise and will find comfort, wisdom, and help for daily living through The Voice of Psalms.
Features:
- the entire Book of Psalms in The Voice™ translation
- 75 practical and insightful comments on selected scriptures, focusing the primary idea of each one addressed
- devotional in tone
- offering immediate application
- 28 Advent readings with messianic quotes from other portions of Scripture
- 40 Lenten readings with messianic quotes from other portions of Scripture
- 40 Psalms readings for those seeking help from the Lord
- 40 Psalms readings for those desiring to have a time of praise with the Lord
This is a beautifully bound book and the pages are easy to read and pleasant to view. The Voice is an interesting and new translation of the Bible; however, I'm not comfortable with this translation. Of course, I had never even heard of translations other than King James and NIV until about 3 years ago and I switched from KJV to NIV because I never could understand the KJV.
I liked the different reading plan options already set out for me. I think it would be a nice gift book for someone who really likes bibles or who would like a devotional book. Just know when you buy it that the translation is a little different than normal, but that's not always a bad thing. It's possible it'll grow on me as an additional resource to use in my daily prayer time.
Interesting in purchasing? Check out Amazon or Christianbook.com.
Thank you, Thomas Nelson, for providing me a copy of The Voice of Psalms to review.
